Creating and managing projects

A complete walkthrough of StudioSprite projects: creation, folders, bulk sprite management, and DNA locking.

A project is a locked art bible inside StudioSprite. Every sprite generated inside a project inherits the same Sprite DNA — silhouette, palette, outline style, and signature features — so your characters, props, and tiles stay visually consistent from frame one to frame one hundred.

1. Create a project

Click Projects in the top nav, then New project.

- Name — keep it descriptive ("Forest Spirits", "Cyberpunk NPCs"). - ModePixel for retro tiles, UI, and effects; HD-2D for hero characters, bosses, and cinematic assets. - Art direction — optional free-text notes that get injected into every generation prompt. Good examples: *"Warm earth tones, no neon. Heavy black outlines."* or *"Soft rim light from top-left, desaturated backgrounds."*

Hit Create project. The project appears on your Projects dashboard immediately.

2. Open a project

Click any project card to open its detail page. The layout has three zones:

- Left — the sprite grid with bulk-action toolbar above it. - Top-left — the Folders panel for organizing sprites into nested folders. - Right sidebarDirection & rules (name, notes, style lock) and the DNA panel (silhouette, palette, signature features, never-change list).

3. Organize with folders

Folders keep large projects tidy. You can create unlimited nested folders:

- Click New folder to add a top-level folder. - Hover any folder and click the + icon to add a subfolder. - Use the pencil to rename, or the trash to delete. Deleting a folder only removes the container — sprites inside become uncategorized, not deleted.

Click a folder name to filter the sprite grid to just that folder. All and Uncategorized are always one click away.

4. Bulk sprite actions

Select sprites with the checkbox on each card, or click Select all to grab every visible sprite.

With a selection active you can:

- Tag — type comma-separated tags and hit Tag to apply them in one go. - Move — transfer sprites to another project, or to Loose (no project). - To folder — move selected sprites into any folder in the tree, or back to the root. - Delete — permanently remove sprites. This cannot be undone.

5. Edit project settings

In the right sidebar, edit Project name or Direction notes at any time. Changes apply going forward — existing sprites stay as-is.

Style lock prevents accidental DNA drift. When enabled, the AI will refuse to regenerate or mutate the project's core visual DNA unless you explicitly unlock it first. Toggle it on once your project's look is dialed in.

6. Generate inside a project

The fastest way to add sprites is from the project page itself: click + Generate for this project to jump to the Generator with the project pre-selected. Every sprite you create this way automatically inherits the project's DNA and lands inside the project (and the root folder by default).

Project limits

Free accounts: 2 projects with 20 sprites each. Pro accounts: 25 projects with 500 sprites each. Studio accounts: unlimited projects and sprites.

If you hit the cap, upgrade from /pricing or archive old projects by moving their sprites to Loose and deleting the empty project.
